Do you ever catch yourself talking baby talk to your fur baby in public? You’re not alone! Cat moms are a special breed, and we do things that make “normal” people raise an eyebrow. But who cares what they think? Our kitties are worth it!
1. Turning our homes into a feline paradise
Walk into a cat mom’s house, and you might think you’ve stepped into a kitty version of Disneyland. We’re talking floor-to-ceiling cat trees, shelves strategically placed for theirs epic parkour sessions, and more scratching posts than furniture. And let’s not forget the obligatory “catio” – because why should birds have all the fun outside?
Our non-cat friends might think we’ve lost it, but we know the truth: a happy cat equals a happy home. Plus, who needs boring human decor when you can have a living room that doubles as a kitty obstacle course?

2. Celebrating our cat’s birthday and adoption day
Normal people might remember their pet’s birthday, but cat moms? Some of us go all out. We’re talking tuna cakes, party hats for everyone (yes, including the cat), and a photoshoot that would put most wedding albums to shame.
And it’s not just birthdays. It could be half-birthdays, adoption anniversaries, and “congrats on not knocking over the vase for a whole week” days are all fair game for celebration. Judge us all you want, but our cats deserve to be celebrated every day!
3. Spending more on cat food than human food
Open a cat mom’s pantry, and you might think Gordon Ramsay is coming over for dinner. Organic, grain-free, wild-caught salmon pâté? Check. Freeze-dried chicken treats imported from Japan? Of course! Meanwhile, our own dinner might be instant ramen… again.
But hey, our cats have sophisticated palates, and we’re just here to serve them. Besides, who needs a fancy dinner out when you can spend that money on a new flavor of cat food that your furry overlord will probably snub anyway?

4. Talking about our cats like they’re our kids
“Sorry, I can’t make it at happy hour. Mr. Magoo has been sick, and I also need to get home to give Missy her medication.”
If this sounds familiar, congrats! You’re a certified cat mom. We talk about our feline friends like they’re our actual children, complete with report cards (“The vet says she’s at a healthy weight!”) and proud parent moments (“She used the scratching post instead of the couch today!”). Other people might roll their eyes, but we know the truth: our cats are family, and they deserve just as much attention and pride as any human child.
5. Planning our entire schedule around our cats
Vacation? Not without extensive research on pet-sitters and daily video calls to check-in. Late night out? Better get home by feeding time or risk the wrath of a hungry, disgruntled kitty. Cat moms plan their lives around their feline companions, and we’re not ashamed to admit it.
We’ve been known to leave parties early because “the cat gets anxious if I’m not home to tuck her in,” and we see nothing wrong with that. Our non-cat friends might think we’re crazy, but we know who really runs the household – and it’s not us.

6. Turning into amateur photographers (AKA paparazzi)
If your phone’s storage is 90% cat photos and 10% everything else, you might be a cat mom. We snap pictures of our cats doing literally anything – sleeping, eating, existing – and think each one belongs in the Louvre.
And don’t even get us started on social media. We’ve been known to create entire Instagram accounts dedicated to our feline friends, complete with witty captions and hashtags. #CatMomLife, anyone? Of course, some people might get tired of seeing cat photos on their feeds, but true friends know that liking every single cat pic is the secret to staying in our good graces.
7. Becoming fluent in cat
To the untrained ear, a meow is just a meow. But to a cat mom? It’s a complex language we’ve spent years decoding. We know the difference between the “I’m hungry” meow, the “pet me now” meow, and the “I’m about to unleash chaos” meow.
We’ve even been caught meowing back, having full conversations with our cats in public. Those who do not have a cat might think we’ve lost our minds, but we’re just practicing our bilingual skills. Meow means meow, after all.

8. Wearing cat hair as a fashion statement
Black clothing? We don’t know about that. Cat moms have long since embraced the fact that everything we own will be perpetually covered in a fine layer of cat hair. We’ve given up on lint rollers and instead consider it a badge of honor.
Is it going to a fancy event? That’s what the cat hair is for – it adds texture to any outfit. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. “Oh, this? It’s a custom fur blend, courtesy of my cat.” While others might frantically try to de-fur themselves before leaving the house, we know better. Whether we like it or not, the cat hair is coming with us, so we may as well own it.
The purrfect life
At the end of the day, being a cat mom might seem outrageous to some, but to us, it’s just another day in paradise. Our cats might not be able to say “I love you” (in human language), but every purr, head boop and slow blink tells us all we need to know. So go ahead and judge us – we’re too busy living our best nine lives to care!

Hey, I’m Morgan, a 51-year-old cat mom from Kingsport, Tennessee. With four cats under my roof—one being a blind troublemaker named Mr. Magoo—there’s always something keeping me on my toes. When I’m not chasing cats or spending time with my kids and grandbabies, I’m all about healthy living, organic gardening, and sharing a good laugh. My Southern sarcasm comes naturally, and it’s helped me navigate the chaos of cat life, one snarky comment at a time.
